۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 When he said unto his father and his folk: What are these images unto which ye pay devotion? 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error." 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 They asked, "Abraham, did you do this to our idols?" 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 So they returned one to another, and they said, 'Surely it is you who are the evildoers.' 64 Then they reversed themselves, [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!" 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 'O Fire' We said, 'be coolness and safety for Abraham' 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 and made them leaders who would guide [others] in accordance with Our behest: for We inspired them [with a will] to do good works, and to be constant in prayer, and to dispense charity: and Us [alone] did they worship. 73 And Lot -- to him We gave judgment and knowledge; and we delivered him from the city that had been doing deeds of corruption; they were an evil people, truly ungodly; 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy: for he was one of the Righteous. 75
