Pilgrimage (Al-Hajj)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ O mankind, fear the (wrath of) your Lord! Indeed, the earthquake of the Hour (of Judgement) will be an awesome thing. 1 On the day when you shall see it, every woman giving suck shall quit in confusion what she suckled, and every pregnant woman shall lay down her burden, and you shall see men intoxicated, and they shall not be intoxicated but the chastisement of Allah will be severe. 2 And yet among men there are such as dispute about Allah, without knowledge, and follow every evil one obstinate in rebellion! 3 For him (the devil) it is decreed that whosoever follows him, he will mislead him, and will drive him to the torment of the Fire. [Tafsir At-Tabari] 4 O MEN! If you are in doubt as to the [truth of] resurrection, [remember that,] verily, We have created [every one of] you out of dust, then out of a drop of sperm, then out of a germ-cell, then out of an embryonic lump complete [in itself] and yet incomplete so that We might make [your origin] clear unto you. And whatever We will [to be born] We cause to rest in the [mothers'] wombs for a term set [by Us,] and then We bring you forth as infants and [allow you to live] so that [some of] you might attain to maturity: for among you are such as are caused to die [in childhood,] just as many a one of you is reduced in old age to a most abject state, ceasing to know anything of what he once knew so well. And [if, O man, thou art still in doubt as to resurrection, consider this:] thou canst see the earth dry and lifeless - and [suddenly,] when We send down waters upon it, it stirs and swells and puts forth every kind of lovely plant! 5 That is so for God is the undeniable Reality. It is He who brings the dead to life, for He has power over everything. 6 And [that they may know] that the Hour is coming - no doubt about it - and that Allah will resurrect those in the graves. 7 And among mankind is he who disputeth concerning Allah without knowledge or guidance or a scripture giving light, 8 They turn away (from the Truth) to lead people away from the path of God. Their share in this world will be disgrace and on the Day of Judgment a burning torment. 9 That is because of what your hands have sent forth, and verily, Allah is not unjust to (His) slaves. 10
