The chiefs of the people who did not believe and denied the life to come, though We had given them good things of this life to enjoy, (said): "He is only a mortal like you. He eats as you do, and drinks as you drink. 33 "If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, then verily! You indeed would be losers. 34 Does he promise you that when you die and have become dust and bones, that you will be brought forth again? 35 ۞ After, after with that which you are promised! 36 "There is nothing but our life in this world! We shall die and we live! But we shall never be raised up again! 37 This man has forged a mere lie in the name of Allah and we shall never believe what he says." 38 He said, 'O my Lord, help me, for that they cry me lies.' 39 He answered: "A short while, and they shall be repenting." 40 So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people. 41 Then, after them, We created other generations. 42 No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind. 43 We then sent our Noble Messengers, one after another; whenever a nation’s Noble Messenger came to it they denied him, We therefore united the succeeding with the old, and made them history; so far removed be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our Signs and a clear authority 45 to Pharaoh and his Council, but they were very proud, and they were a tyrannical nation. 46 They said, "Should we believe in two mere mortals who are like ourselves and whose people are our slaves?" 47 So they denied them and were of those destroyed. 48 for, indeed, We had vouchsafed revelation unto Moses in order that they might find the right way. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and gave them shelter on an elevated ground, sequestered, watered by a spring. 50
