The chiefs of the people who did not believe and denied the life to come, though We had given them good things of this life to enjoy, (said): "He is only a mortal like you. He eats as you do, and drinks as you drink. 33 And if you obey a mortal like yourselves, then most surely you will be losers: 34 "Does he promise you that when you have died and have become dust and bones, you shall come out alive (resurrected)? 35 ۞ How far, how far, is that which you are promised. 36 "There is nothing but our life of this world! We die and we live! And we are not going to be resurrected! 37 “He is just a man who has fabricated a lie against Allah, and we are not going to believe him.” 38 He said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me." 39 He answered: "A short while, and they shall be repenting." 40 Then a mighty blast quite justly overtook them, and We reduced them to a rubble. So away with the wrong-doing folk! 41 After them We brought another generation into existence. 42 No nation can go before its term ends nor stay back. 43 Then sent We Our Messengers successively; whenever its Messenger came to a nation they cried him lies, so We caused some of them to follow others, and We made them as but tales; so away with a people who do not believe! 44 We then sent Moosa and his brother Haroon, with Our signs and a clear proof. 45 to Pharaoh and his courtiers, but they behaved insolently, for they were an arrogant people. 46 So they said: shall we believe in two human beings like unto us, while their nation are to us slaves? 47 So they belied them, and they were among the destroyed. 48 And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Musa the Book, that haply they may be guided. 49 And [as We exalted Moses, so, too,] We made the son of Mary and his mother a symbol [of Our grace,] and provided for both an abode in a lofty place of lasting restfulness and unsullied springs. 50
