Light (Al-Noor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WE HAVE REVEALED this Surah and made it obligatory as We have sent down clear injunctions in it that you may be warned. 1 The adulterer and the adulteress, scourge ye each one of them (with) a hundred stripes. And let not pity for the twain withhold you from obedience to Allah, if ye believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a party of believers witness their punishment. 2 A man guilty of adultery (or fornication) shall not marry any but the woman guilty of the same or a mushrik woman, and none shall marry a woman guilty of adultery (or fornication) but the man guilty of the same or a mushrik man: such marriages are forbidden to true believers. 3 And as for those who accuse chaste women [of adultery,] and then are unable to produce four witnesses [in support of their accusation,] flog them with eighty stripes and ever after refuse to accept from them any testimony - since it is they, they that are truly depraved! 4 except those among them that afterwards repent and mend their ways. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. 5 And those who accuse their wives [of adultery] and have no witnesses except themselves - then the witness of one of them [shall be] four testimonies [swearing] by Allah that indeed, he is of the truthful. 6 and the fifth time, that the curse of Allah shall be upon him, if he should be of the liars. 7 It shall avert from her the chastisement if she testify by God four times that he is of the liars, 8 And the fifth time, that the wrath of Allah be upon her if the man is truthful. 9 And were it not for Allah's grace upon you and His mercy-- and that Allah is Oft-returning (to mercy), Wise! 10
