Pharaoh said to the chiefs around him, "Surely this man is a skilful sorcerer. 34 Who would drive you out of your land by his magic. Now what counsel ye? 35 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send gatherers to the cities.” 36 to bring every knowledgeable sorcerer' 37 So the magicians were assembled at a stated time and place on an appointed day. 38 And it was said to the people: "Are you (too) going to assemble? 39 so that we might follow [in the footsteps of] the sorcerers if it is they who prevail?" 40 And when the magicians came, they said to Firon: Shall we get a reward if we are the vanquishers? 41 He said: Yes, and surely you will then be of those who are made near. 42 Musa (Moses) said to them: "Throw what you are going to throw!" 43 Thereupon they threw down their ropes and their rods, and said: "By the glory of Pharaoh, we shall prevail." 44 Then Moses threw his rod, when, behold, it straightway swallows up all the falsehoods which they fake! 45 And the sorcerers fell down prostrate. 46 [and] exclaimed: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 47 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 48 He (Pharaoh) said: 'You have believed him before I have given you permission. He is the chief of you who has taught you sorcery. But you shall know. I will surely cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and crucify you all.' 49 They said, “No harm (in it), we will return to our Lord.” 50 Indeed, we aspire that our Lord will forgive us our sins because we were the first of the believers." 51
