The Pharaoh said to the chiefs around him: "He is certainly a clever magician. 34 "His plan is to get you out of your land by his sorcery; then what is it ye counsel?" 35 They said: Put him off, (him) and his brother, and send into the cities summoners 36 who shall bring to you every skilful sorcerer." 37 So the sorcerers were assembled at a fixed time on a day appointed. 38 And it was said to the people, "Will you congregate 39 so that we may follow the magicians if they become victorious? 40 So when the magicians came, they said to Firaun, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 41 "Yes," he replied. "You 'will be among the honoured." 42 Moosa said to them, “Cast whatever you intend to cast.” 43 So they cast their ropes and their staffs, and said, 'By the might of Pharaoh we shall be the victors.' 44 Therefore Moosa put forth his staff – so it immediately began swallowing all their fabrications. 45 And the wizards were flung prostrate, 46 saying, "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 47 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 48 Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed him before I gave you leave. Why, he is the chief of you, the same that taught you sorcery; now you shall know! I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.' 49 They said: "No harm! Surely, to our Lord (Allah) we are to return; 50 We hope that our Lord will forgive us for our sins; we were not believers at first." 51
