And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing so." 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 He who gives me food and drink; 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 And forgive my father, for surely he is of those who have gone astray; 86 And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected - 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 “Nor a caring friend.” 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
