Alshu'araa' 5 of 11
Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What do you worship' 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He said, 'Do they hear you when you call, 72 or do they cause you any benefit or harm?" 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 you and your fathers, the elders? 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 “And the One Who feeds me and gives me to drink.” 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 My Lord, bestow wisdom upon me; unite me with the righteous; 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 "Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected; 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 They shall say while they contend therein: 96 By Allah, we have indeed been in an error manifest. 97 “When we considered you equal to the Lord Of The Creation.” 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers... " 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 104
