And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 (Abraham) asked: "Do they hear when you call them? 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 you and your forefathers of yore? 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 O Lord, give me wisdom and admit me among the righteous, 83 And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations. 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 Forgive me and my father: He was surely among those who went astray. 86 And humiliate me not on the Day whereon people shall be raised. 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 And Paradise will be brought close for the pious. 90 And hell will be revealed for the astray. 91 And it will be said unto them: Where is (all) that ye used to worship 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 If we could only return to the world and be among the believers." 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 104
