And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They replied, "We worship idols and shall continue to worship them". 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 (Abraham) said, "Do you know that what you worship 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 “The One Who created me, so He will guide me.” 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 “And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me.” 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 "And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection)," 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 And uphold my name with posterity, 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring; 86 “And do not disgrace me on the day when everyone will be raised.” 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous. 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 They will then be thrown into Hell with those who had gone astray 94 And the soldiers of Iblees, all together. 95 They shall say while they contend therein: 96 "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 “So now we do not have any intercessors.” (The believers shall have intercessors, the disbelievers none). 100 and no sincere friend. 101 Oh, that we had another turn (on earth), that we might be of the believers! 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 104
