And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?” 70 They replied, "We worship idols and shall continue to worship them". 71 He said, 'Do they hear you when you call, 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 (Abraham) said, "Do you know that what you worship 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 "And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again); 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected - 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 and the Fire will be uncovered for those who strayed, 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 By Allah, we have indeed been in an error manifest. 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 It was nothing but the evildoers who led us astray. 99 Now we have no intercessors, 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 And indeed your Lord only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104

Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
