And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They replied, "We worship idols and shall continue to worship them". 71 He asked, "Do they hear you when you call to them? 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: have ye observed that which ye worship 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 "And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection)," 82 My Lord! bestow on me wisdom and join me with the righteous. 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 On the Day of Judgment Paradise will be brought near the pious 90 and Hell shall be revealed to the misguided, 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 They will dispute between themselves therein, and will say, 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 yet they who have seduced us [into believing in you] are the truly guilty ones! 99 And now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 104
