And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They said: "No. But we found our fathers doing so." 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 and He gives me to eat and drink, 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray; 86 and disgrace me not on the Day when people will be raised to life, 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 and when he alone will be saved who comes to God with a sound heart." 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 and Hell shall be revealed to the misguided, 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 And all the armies of Iblis. (Satan) 95 They shall say while they contend therein: 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 It was nothing but the evildoers who led us astray. 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 surely, your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 104
