The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 And orchards and springs. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
