[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 "And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation." 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 "And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?" 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 gardens and fountains. 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 They rejected him and We destroyed them. 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
