The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 and when the earth is stretched out 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 5 O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him. 6 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 will be easy, 8 and they will return to their people, delighted 9 but as for him whose record shall be given to him from behind his back, 10 He shall presently call for death, 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 He used to be happy with his own people; 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yes indeed, his Lord was ever watching him. 15 Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 and by the night and what it enfolds, 17 And the Moon in her fullness: 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 Then what ails them, that they believe not, 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 In fact, they reject the Quran, 22 Yet God has full knowledge of what they conceal [in their hearts]. 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 But for those who believe and do good works; for them there shall be a never-ending reward. 25
