'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
