(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
