The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day. 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
