The Thamud accused the messengers of lies. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 (Saleh) said: "Here is a she-camel. She has a right of drinking water, and you have a right of drinking it on appointed turns. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
