The Thamud belied the sent ones 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me, 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
