Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
