Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 And corn-fields and palm-trees whereof the spathes are fine? 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
