[AND] the people of Lot gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 160 When their brother Lot said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 161 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 162 So fear Allah and obey me. 163 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage is only with the Lord of the Worlds. 164 "Must you, of all people, [lustfully] approach men, 165 Leaving the consorts your Lord has made for you? But you are a people who exceed the bounds." 166 They said: "If thou desist not, O Lut! thou wilt assuredly be cast out!" 167 He said: 'Truly, I am a detester of what you do' 168 [And then he prayed:] "O my Sustainer! Save me and my household from all that they are doing!" 169 So We saved him and his household, every one, 170 Save an old woman among the lingerers. 171 Thereafter, We utterly destroyed the rest, 172 and We poured a rain [of destruction] down upon them -- and how evil was the rain which fell on those who were forewarned. 173 In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 174 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 175
