[AND] the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan] gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 176 Shu'aib said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 177 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 178 So fear Allah, and obey me. 179 I do not ask any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 180 ۞ "[Always] give full measure, and be not among those who [unjustly] cause loss [to others]; 181 and [in all your dealings] weigh with a true balance, 182 "And defraud not people by reducing their things, nor do evil, making corruption and mischief in the land. 183 And fear Him who created you and all the earlier people." 184 They said: You are only of those deluded; 185 You are but a man like ourselves, and indeed, we think you are among the liars. 186 So cause a fragment of the sky to fall on us, if you are truthful." 187 Answered [Shu'ayb]: "My Sustainer knows fully well what you are doing." 188 But they denied him, and We seized them with the torment of the Day of Shadowing (when the cloud had rained down fire). It was indeed the torment of a terrible day! 189 Lo! herein is indeed a portent; yet most of them are not believers. 190 And most surely your Lord is Mighty, the Merciful. 191
