۞ We have conveyed Our Word to them, in succession, so that they may give heed. 51 Those unto whom We vouchsafed the Book before it, they believe therein. 52 When it is recited to them, they say: 'We believe in it, because it is the truth from Our Lord. We surrendered ourselves before it came. 53 These will be given their reward twice over, because they are patient, and repel evil with good, and spend (in charity) out of what We have provided them. 54 and when they hear vain talk, they turn away from it and say, "We have our actions and you have yours. We wish you peace. We will have nothing to do with the ignorant." 55 You cannot guide any one you like: God guides whosoever He please. He knows best who will come to guidance. 56 They, (the pagans), say, "If we were to follow your guidance we would be snatched away from our land. Have We not given them the secure, holy precinct wherein all types of fruits are brought to them as a sustenance from Us? However, many of them do not know it. 57 How many townships have We destroyed where the people had become arrogant on account of their affluence? Since then their dwelling-places have scarcely been inhabited -- We became their inheritors. 58 And never did thy Lord destroy the townships, till He had raised up in their mother(-town) a messenger reciting unto them Our revelations. And never did We destroy the townships unless the folk thereof were evil-doers. 59 Whatever you are given in this life is nothing but a temporary provision of this life and its glitter; what God has is better and more lasting. Will you not then understand? 60
