The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 The Romans have been defeated 2 In a near land, and they, after being vanquished, shall overcome, 3 in a few years. To Allah belongs the Command before and after, and on that Day the believers will rejoice 4 In Allah succour. He succoureth whomsoever He will, and He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 5 It is a promise of God; and God does not go back on His promise. Yet most men do not understand: 6 They know an outward part of this life, but of the Everlasting Life they are inattentive. 7 Have they not pondered upon themselves? Allah created not the heavens and the earth, and that which is between them, save with truth and for a destined end. But truly many of mankind are disbelievers in the meeting with their Lord. 8 Have they not journeyed in the land and observed what wise hath been the end of those before them? They were stronger than they in power and they broke up the earth and they inhabited it with greater affluence than these have inhabited it, and their apostles came unto them with evidences. And Allah was not one to wrong them, but themselves they were wont to wrong. 9 Evil was the end of the harmdoers, because they belied the verses of Allah and mocked at them. 10
