In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
