The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif Lam Mim 1 The Romans have been defeated (by the Persians) 2 in the neighbouring land; but after their defeat they shall gain victory 3 Within ten years - Allah's is the command in the former case and in the latter - and in that day believers will rejoice 4 In the victory of Allah. He gives victory to whom He wills, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 5 (It is) the promise of Allah. Never does Allah depart from His promise: but most men understand not. 6 They know only some appearance of the life of the world, and are heedless of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not reflect on themselves? Allah created the heavens and the earth and whatever lies between them in Truth and for an appointed term. Yet many people deny that they will meet their Lord. 8 What, have they never journeyed in the land and seen what was the end of those before them? They were stronger in might than themselves, and they plowed the land and cultivated it more than they themselves have cultivated it. And to them, their Messengers came with clear signs, and Allah did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves. 9 Therefore evil was the end of those who did evil, for they denied the signs of God and made fun of them. 10
