۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell, 23 "But stop them, verily they are to be questioned. 24 What aileth you that ye help not one another? 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 They will say, "No! It was you who would not believe -- 29 We had no authority over you, in fact, you were a rebellious people. 30 The statement of Our Lord is realized against us, and we are tasting it, 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 On that Day they will all share the punishment: 33 Verily We! in this wise We deal with the culprits. 34 Surely they used to behave proudly when it was said to them: There is no god but Allah; 35 And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet? 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 “You surely have to taste the painful punishment.” 38 and be rewarded only according to your deeds." 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 Those will have a provision determined - 41 fruits of various kinds; and they shall be honoured, 42 (They will live) in the bountiful gardens, 43 On couches, facing one another. 44 A drink will be passed round among them from a flowing spring: 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 There shall be no trouble in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith. 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 [as free of faults] as if they were hidden [ostrich] eggs. 49 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 who would say: "Are you among the believers (of the resurrection)? 52 Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? 53 He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" 54 Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 If it had not been for the blessing of my Lord, I would also have been taken to Hell." 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 except for our first death, and are we not chastised? 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of AzZakkum! 62 We have made this tree a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 Surely it is a tree that-grows in the bottom of the hell; 64 and its fruits are like devils' heads. 65 They will eat and fill their bellies with it, 66 On top of it they shall have a brew of boiling water, 67 They can only return to hell. 68 They found their fathers had gone astray; 69 and [now] they make haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 Before them erred most of the ancients, 71 And indeed We had sent Heralds of warnings among them. 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 74
