۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 "Instead of Allah, and lead them on to the way of flaming Fire (Hell); 23 And stop them; verily they are to be questioned: 24 "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?" 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 and advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers, 29 We had no power over you. In fact, you were a people rebellious. 30 “So the Word of our Lord has proved true upon us; we will surely have to taste (the punishment).” 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 So, they will become partners in punishment. 33 Lo! thus deal We with the guilty. 34 for when it was said to them, 'There is no god but God,' they were ever waxing proud, 35 And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" 36 In fact, he had brought them the truth and had acknowledged the Messengers (who were sent before him). 37 You shall certainly taste the painful punishment: 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 But the bondmen of Allah, the sincere ones 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 Fruits; and they shall be honoured, 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 upon couches, set face to face, 44 a cup from a spring being passed round to them, 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 With them will be spouses, modest of gaze and beautiful of eye, 48 As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected. 49 Then they will turn to one another, mutually questioning. 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 "Who used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)? 52 After we are dead and have become all dust and bones shall we still be requited?' 53 He shall say: Will you look on? 54 He will look down and see him in hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 But for the Favor of Allah I should have surely been among those who were arraigned (with you in Hell). 57 He will ask his companion, "Did you not say that there would only be one death 58 except for our first death? And shall we suffer no chastisement?'” 59 “This is, most certainly, the supreme success.” 60 For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of AzZakkum! 62 We have made this tree a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell; 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 on it they shall feed, and with it they shall fill their bellies. 66 Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water. 67 then their return is unto Hell. 68 Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path; 69 So they hastily follow their footsteps! 70 yet before them most of the ancients went astray, 71 though We had sent warners among them. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- 73 except for God's sincere servants. 74
