۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 "Why help you not one another?" 25 No indeed; but today they resign themselves in submission 26 And they will approach one another blaming each other. 27 They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right." 28 Others will respond, "It was you who did not want to have any faith. 29 "And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people (disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers). 30 "So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins). 31 And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators." 32 So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful 35 and replied, "Shall we then give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- 38 although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. 39 But the sincere servants of God 40 there is waiting for them a known provision; 41 Fruits; and they will be honored 42 in the Gardens of Bliss, 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 a goblet from a spring shall be passed round to them 45 Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink (thereof), 46 Wherein there is no headache nor are they made mad thereby. 47 Theirs shall be wide-eyed maidens with bashful, restrained glances, 48 [as free of faults] as if they were hidden [ostrich] eggs. 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] 51 Who used to say: "Are you among those who believe (in resurrection after death). 52 When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we be recompensed?" 53 Do you want to see him?' " 54 and then he looks and sees that [companion of his] in the midst of the blazing fire, 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 “Except our earlier death, and nor will we be punished?” 59 Most surely this is the mighty achievement. 60 For the like of this then let the workers work. 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils); 65 The dwellers of hell will eat that fruit and fill-up their bellies. 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 for, behold, they found their forebears on a wrong way, 69 and [now] they make haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples, 71 And verily We sent among them warners. 72 See then the end of those who were warned, 73 Except the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, and true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 74
