۞ Gather together those who were unjust and their associates, and what they used to worship 22 “Instead of Allah – and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 And they will approach one another blaming each other. 27 They will say, "You used to come at us from the right." 28 They answer: Nay, but ye (yourselves) were not believers. 29 we had no authority over you; no, you were an insolent people. 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." 32 Therefore, on that Day they will all share Our punishment. 33 Verily, thus shall We deal with all who were lost in sin: 34 for, behold, whenever they were told, "There is no deity save God," they would glory in their arrogance 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. 37 Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom - 38 And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do - 39 But the chosen servants of God; 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 and fruits while they are honored. 42 In gardens of pleasure 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 A cup will be passed round among them [with a drink] from unsullied springs, 45 White, delicious for the drinkers. 46 Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom. 47 And with them will be chaste females, restraining their glances (desiring none except their husbands), with wide and beautiful eyes. 48 As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 A speaker of them saith: Lo! I had a comrade 51 who would say: "Are you among the believers (of the resurrection)? 52 What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be requited?" 53 Allah will say: will ye look down? 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin, 56 And had it not been for the favour of my Lord, I too had been of those haled forth (to doom). 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 Save our first death, and are we not to be tormented? 59 Indeed, this is the mighty victory, 60 For the like of it should the workers work. 61 Is that better by way of hospitality or the Zaqqum tree, 62 Which We have reserved as punishment for evil-doers? 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 and its fruits are like the heads of devils. 65 and they [who are lost in evil] are indeed bound to eat thereof, and to fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then on the top of that they will be given boiling water to drink so that it becomes a mixture (of boiling water and Zaqqum in their bellies). 67 Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire. 68 They had found their fathers astray, 69 and they run in their footsteps. 70 Before them a multitude of people of olden times had erred, 71 We had certainly sent warners to them. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- 73 except the sincere worshipers of Allah. 74
