۞ Gather together those who were unjust and their associates, and what they used to worship 22 “Instead of Allah – and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 And stop them; verily they are to be questioned: 24 What is the matter with you that you do not help each other? 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 And they will advance toward each other mutually questioning. 27 Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us." 28 They will say: “Nay, you yourselves were not the ones who would believe. 29 And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people. 30 and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment. 33 As such We shall deal with the evildoers. 34 Surely they used to behave proudly when it was said to them: There is no god but Allah; 35 And they used to say, “Shall we forsake our Gods upon the sayings of a mad poet?” 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 Behold, you will indeed taste grievous suffering [in the life to come,] 38 “And you will not be compensated except for your deeds.” 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 for them awaits a known provision, 41 Fruits! And they shall be honoured. 42 (They will live) in the bountiful gardens, 43 Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity): 44 A cup will be passed round among them [with a drink] from unsullied springs, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty). 48 Like sheltered eggs in a nest. 49 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 50 Said one of the speakers: "I had a friend 51 Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 And he will reply: 'Are you looking down (into Hell)' 54 Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I should certainly have been among those brought (there)! 57 (Allah informs about that true believer that he said): "Are we then not to die (any more)? 58 "Except our first death, and we shall not be punished? (after we have entered Paradise)." 59 Verily, this - this indeed - is the triumph supreme!" 60 For the like of it should the workers work. 61 Is this better or the tree of Zaqqum 62 We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 and its fruits are like devils' heads. 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then most surely they shall have after it to drink of a mixture prepared in boiling water. 67 Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire. 68 They found their fathers erring, 69 But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps. 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 And verily We sent among them warners. 72 Then see how was the end of those warned, 73 Except the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah. 74
