Jonah too was one of the Envoys; 139 He fled to the overloaded ship. 140 Then lots were drawn and he became of those who were pushed into the sea. 141 And the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy; 142 and had he not been among those who exalt (Allah), 143 He would have indeed remained inside its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ but We cast him upon the wilderness, and he was sick, 145 And We caused to grow, over him, a spreading plant of the gourd kind. 146 And We sent him to [his people of] a hundred thousand or more. 147 and [this time] they believed [in him] and so We allowed them to enjoy their life during the time allotted to them? 148 So ask them for a pronouncement -- Has thy Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Did We create the angels females, to which they were witnesses? 150 Verily, it is of their falsehood that they (Quraish pagans) say: 151 Allah has begotten; and most surely they are liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you form your judgement? 154 Will you not then reflect? 155 Do you have clear authority? 156 Then bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful! 157 And they imagine kinship between him and the jinn, whereas the jinn know well that they will be brought before (Him). 158 God is too glorious for what they ascribe to Him 159 all of them except the chosen servants of Allah. 160 So, verily you (pagans) and those whom you worship (idols). 161 you shall tempt none against Him 162 Except such as are (themselves) going to the blazing Fire! 163 And the angels say, “Each one of us has an appointed known position.” 164 Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks, 165 And we are most surely they who declare the glory (of Allah). 166 And indeed they (Arab pagans) used to say; 167 'If only we had a reminder from the ancients, 168 "We should certainly have been Servants of Allah, sincere (and devoted)!" 169 But (now that the Quran has come) they disbelieve therein (i.e. in the Quran and in Prophet Muhammad SAW, and all that which he brought, the Divine Revelation), so they will come to know! 170 And assuredly Our word hath already gone forth Our bondmen, the sent ones: 171 that they shall certainly be succoured, 172 and that Our army will be triumphant. 173 So, (O Prophet), leave them alone for a while, 174 And wait; they will come to know soon. 175 What! would they then hasten on Our chastisement? 176 When it descends into their courtyard, it will be terrible for those who have already been warned. 177 So turn (away) from them for a while, 178 and see; and they too shall soon see. 179 Exaltations be to your Lord, the Lord of Might, above that they describe! 180 And Peace on the messengers! 181 And all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. 182
God the Almighty always says the truth.
End of Surah: The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat). Sent down in Mecca after Animals (Al-An 'aam) before Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
