And Yunus was most surely of the apostles. 139 When he ran away to a ship completely laden, 140 and sailed away in a laden ship, wherein people cast lots. Because he lost, he was thrown into the water. 141 Then a (big) fish swallowed him and he had done an act worthy of blame. 142 And had he not been of those who [even in the deep darkness of their distress are able to] extol God's limitless glory, 143 he would indeed have remained in its belly till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 144 ۞ But We cast him forth on the naked shore in a state of sickness, 145 And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine. 146 And We sent him (on a mission) to a hundred thousand (men) or more. 147 And they came to believe; so We allowed them to enjoy the good things of life for an age. 148 Now ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons?- 149 Or created We the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Then is it of their lying that they say: 151 "God has begotten [a son]"; and verily, they are lying [too, when they say,] 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 “What is the matter with you? What sort of a judgement you impose!” 154 “So do you not ponder?” 155 Or have ye a clear warrant? 156 “Then bring forth your Book, if you are truthful!” 157 They have established a kinship between Allah and the angels; and the angels know well that these people will be arraigned (as culprits). 158 God is far above what they attribute to Him, 159 Except the slaves of Allah, whom He choses (for His Mercy i.e. true believers of Islamic Monotheism who do not attribute false things unto Allah). 160 You and whatever you worship 161 Can tempt anyone to rebel against Him. 162 Except the one who will go into the blazing fire. 163 And there is none of us but has an assigned place, 164 We are surely those who are arranged in ranks. 165 we are they that give glory. 166 And indeed the disbelievers used to say, – 167 “If we had some advice from the earlier generations,” – 168 then were we God's sincere servants.' 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 Our word had already been given before to Our votaries, the apostles, -- 171 that it is certainly they who will be helped; 172 And that Our hosts, they verily would be the victors. 173 So turn away from them for a while. 174 and see them [for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 175 Do they want to suffer Our torment immediately? 176 But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned. 177 So turn away from them for a time 178 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 179 Glorified be your Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they attribute unto Him! 180 Peace be upon the Messengers 181 and all praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe. 182
