And recall what time Ibrahim said unto his father and his people: verily I am quit of that which ye worship. 26 except Him who originated me; and He will guide me. 27 And he made it a word to continue in his posterity that they may return. 28 However, I gave enjoyment to these [people of Makkah] and their fathers until there came to them the truth and a clear Messenger. 29 And when the truth came to them, they said, 'This is a sorcery, and in it we are unbelievers.' 30 And they say: wherefore hath not this Qur'an been revealed to a man of the two cities who was great. 31 Is it they who apportion the mercy of your Lord? It is We who distribute among them their livelihood in the life of this world, and raise some of them above others in rank, so that they may take one another into service; and the mercy of your Lord is better than [the wealth] which they amass. 32 And were it not that (all) men might become of one (evil) way of life, We would provide, for everyone that blasphemes against (Allah) Most Gracious, silver roofs for their houses and (silver) stair-ways on which to go up, 33 And for their houses, doors (of silver), and thrones (of silver) on which they could recline, 34 and ornaments; surely all this is but the enjoyment of the present life, and the world to come with thy Lord is for the godfearing. 35
