But as for anyone who chooses to remain blind to the remembrance of the Most Gracious, to him We assign an [enduring] evil impulse, to become his other self: 36 And verily, they (Satans / devils) hinder them from the Path (of Allah), but they think that they are guided aright! 37 Until when he comes before Us he will say (to the devil): "Would to God there was a distance of the East and West between you and me, for you were an evil companion!" 38 And never will it benefit you that Day, when you have wronged, that you are [all] sharing in the punishment. 39 Canst thou then make the deaf to hear, or give direction to the blind or to such as (wander) in manifest error? 40 Even if We take you away from the world, We shall surely take vengeance on them 41 Or show you some of what We have promised them. They are certainly well within Our power. 42 Therefore, hold fast to that which is revealed to you, indeed, you are on the Straight Path. 43 And verily it is an admonition unto thee and thy people; and presently ye will be questioned. 44 And ask thou Our apostles whom We sent before thee: appointed We gods, beside the Compassionate, to be worshipped? 45
