And certainly did We send Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his establishment, and he said, "Indeed, I am the messenger of the Lord of the worlds." 46 But when he brought them Our signs, lo, they laughed at them. 47 And all the signs We showed them were always greater than the earlier ones; and We seized them with calamities, so that they may return. 48 And they said: magician! supplicate thy Lord for us for that which He hath covenanted with thee; verily we shall let ourselves be guided. 49 But whenever We removed the suffering from them, lo! they would break their word. 50 And Pharaoh called out among his people; he said, "O my people, does not the kingdom of Egypt belong to me, and these rivers flowing beneath me; then do you not see? 51 Or am I [not] better than this one who is insignificant and hardly makes himself clear? 52 Why then have bracelets of gold not been cast on him, or angels not come with him conjoined?' 53 Thus he made light (of the matter) to his people, and they obeyed him. They were certainly wicked. 54 We took revenge on them by drowning them all together. 55 And made them a precedent and example for posterity. 56
