THUS, INDEED, have We sent Moses with Our messages unto Pharaoh and his great ones; and he said: "Behold, I am an apostle of the Sustainer of all the worlds!" 46 but when he came to them with Our signs, they ridiculed them, 47 And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow, and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)]. 48 But they said: "O sorcerer, call on your Lord for us in accordance with the compact He has made with you. We shall certainly come to guidance." 49 Then when We had removed from them the torment, behold they were breaking their promise. 50 The Pharaoh shouted to his people, "My people, is the kingdom of Egypt not mine? and can you not see that the streams flow from beneath my palace? 51 Am I (not) better than him who is contemptible, and cannot even express himself clearly? 52 "And then - why have no golden armlets been bestowed on him? or why have no angels come together with him?" 53 Thus did he make fools of his people, and they obeyed him: truly were they a people rebellious (against Allah). 54 So when they angered Us, We punished them, and drowned them all. 55 and We made them a thing past, and We appointed them for an example to later folk. 56
