Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha Mim 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
