Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
