Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 which will smother the people. They will say, "This is a painful torment. 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
