Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
