Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 The command that We have been sending 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone." 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
