And assuredly We have created man and We know whatsoever his soul whispereth unto him, and We are nigher unto him than his jugular vein. 16 [And so,] whenever the two demands [of his nature] come face to face, contending from the right and from the left, 17 Not a word does he (or she) utter, but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it). 18 The trance of death will come revealing the truth: that is what you were trying to escape. 19 The trumpet will be sounded. This is the Day [you were] warned of. 20 Each person will arrive attended by an [angel] to drive him on and another to bear witness. 21 You were heedless of this, but now We have removed your veil, so your sight today is sharp. 22 And (unto the evil-doer) his comrade saith: This is that which I have ready (as testimony). 23 (The sentence will be:) "Throw, throw into Hell every contumacious Rejecter (of Allah)!- 24 who is an opponent of good, a suspicious transgressor 25 who has set up with Allah another god. Indeed, you two, cast him into the terrible punishment' 26 ۞ Man's other self' will say: "O our Sustainer! It was not I that led his conscious mind into evil [nay,] but it had gone far astray [of its own accord]! 27 Allah will say: "Dispute not in front of Me, I had already, in advance, sent you the threat. 28 The Sentence that comes from Me cannot be changed, and I am not unjust (to the least) to the slaves." 29
