The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the mount. 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 on fine parchment; 3 And the House frequented, 4 And the lofty roof. 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 No one can avert it. 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. 18 They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
