The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 in an exposed parchment 3 And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 and the sea that is full 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. 24 And some of them draw near to others, questioning. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
