The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the mount 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 In parchment spread open 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 and the uplifted roof 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 There is none can avert it;- 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 rejoicing in whatever their Lord has given them. Their Lord has saved them from the torment of the Fire, 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
